May 2024 Singing Time Songs Helps and Ideas

Love One Another April 29-May 5

For the week of April 29-May 5 in Come Follow Me we are encouraged to discuss how the gospel of Jesus Christ inspires me to treat others with love and kindness. While singing “Love One Another” you could ask the children to act out different ways that they can show love to others. Some ideas are sharing a toy, helping with a chore, and waving and smiling at someone that looks lonely. The children could give suggestions and act out their ideas. The Lord Can Strengthen Me May 6-12

The song “Help Me Dear Father” is a great way to talk about how the Lord can strengthen us when we feel weak. Let them listen to the song and have them look for ways that Heavenly Father helps us in the words. Sing it with them a few times to help them find any other ways they might have missed. You can find visual aids for Help Me Dear Father here.

I Can Stand For Jesus Christ, Even When I Stand Alone May 13-19

You can briefly share the story of Abinadi with the primary children, then ask them if they know what the word valiant means. After they have shared their thoughts ask them to listen to or sing the song “I Will Be Valiant” (visual aids can be found here). Discuss what the song says being valiant is. Ask them if Abinadi was valiant and how he was valiant.

When I Am Baptized I Make A Covenant With God May 20-26

This week is a great opportunity to review songs. Start by singing When I Am Baptized. You can discuss how we are blessed to be forgiven through baptism and the sacrament. That is one of God’s promises to us. But what do we promise?

Be a witness of God: review I will Be Valiant and discuss being a witness.

Bear others burdens: review Love One Another and discuss how loving one another helps us serve God.

Keep the Commandments: review the song Keep The Commandments and talk about how we covenant with God to keep the commandments when we are baptized.
